For Chinese people, jade bears the meaning of beauty and auspiciousness. Chinese idioms with the word “jade” have the connotation of nobility, purity, grace and so on, which shows Chinese people’s preference and adoration of jade. This gemstone, found in nature and carved with great care by craftsmen, embodies the national personalities and characteristics of different times. From the collections in Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, some 100 pieces of selected jade wares can show the visitors jade ware’s developing history, function, craftsmanship and some information about China’s jade. As Pure as Jade has four main parts divided by their functions—Jade as Ornaments, Jade in Rites, Jade and Health, and Jade in Daily Life.
