Hainan Island is the birthplace of Li nationality’s traditional brocades, enjoying a long history. According to the historical records, the traditional cotton textile technology has gone through more than 3,000 years. As early as The Spring and Autumn and the Warring States Periods, the ancestors of Li nationality had already known how to make clothes with cotton. During the West Han Dynasty, the exquisite “Guangfu Cloth” had become the treasure of “annual tributes” and Hainan Island also became the cradle of Chinese cotton textile industry because of Li brocade. Moreover, traditional technologies of dyeing and weaving of Li nationality have been enlisted in the first batch of the national intangible cultural heritage reserve and selected as “intangible cultural heritage urgently needed to be safeguarded” by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural. There will be more than 200 distinctive traditional Li nationality’s brocades ,clothing and accessories in five dialect areas of Li nationality (Qi, Sai, Run, Meifu and Fang dialect area respectively) put on display, whose contents include five units: non-woven fabric，cambric，kapok cotton and sea island cotton ,clothing in five dialect areas of Li nationality and the Dragon Quilt of Li .Through the displayed contents such as production of bark clothing, technology of ramie textile and technology and clothing of textile technology, visitors will learn the evolutionary process of Li’s traditional technologies of spinning, weaving, dyeing and embroidery as well as appreciate the unique charm of these traditional brocades.
