Brocade, as a type of Chinese silk fabric, contains the highest skill level in this field and gets its name for making silk threads into all kinds of fabrics. During the 7,000 history of Chinese silkworms and reeling, brocade as the most beautiful part of silk, had ever traveled all over the world with groups of the Silk Road. It also appears various styles in different nationalities and religions during their thousands of years’ life and production such as Yun brocade of Nanking, Shu brocade of Chengdu etc. In addition, Chinese water town Hangchow also has a long history of silk weaving industry. In modern times, with the innovations of modern silk technology, brocade which focused on presenting the scenery of the West Lake had come out. Mentioned in the folksong (sung thousands of years) “coming to Hangchow from a very far distance, half for the West Lake and half for the silk”, the West Lake and the silk got perfect blend in the West Lake’s brocade. In the Republic of China, the brocade of the West Lake scenery was very popular and many modern national silk enterprises like Du Jinsheng Silk Factory sprung up in Hangchow and they worked hard together, pushing the West Lake brocade to splendid top and making all the country even all the world stunned by its extremely beauty. The exhibition is divided into three parts. The first part: Just like Heavenly——the technology of brocade which shows its manufacture technique. The second part: the Annuals of brocade——the history of the West Lake brocade, displaying its pre-history, the earliest Chinese silk scenery (there are two sayings), and its chronicle of events. The last part: Splendid Lake Landscape——scenery on the brocade, demonstrating panorama, Ten Views of the West Lake and Buddha Light and Tower Shadow.
